Boards and Commissions
Become a Board or Commission Member
Are you looking for ways to give back to the community? If so, we have a spot for you! We’re looking for committed residents willing to volunteer a few hours of their time each month to serve on a board or commission.
Rowlett citizens are encouraged to participate in their municipal government through service on various City boards and commissions. These volunteer boards are composed of citizens who are appointed by the
City Council. Most positions are appointed for terms ranging from one to two years. Other appointments are made as necessary to fill vacancies or when new boards are created.
Applications are available in the
City Secretary’s Office in the City Hall Municipal Center at 4000 Main Street. Youth members who wish to apply for advisory Boards and/or Commissions will be appointed as Junior Alternate Members and may participate as non-voting members. Youth applicants must be Rowlett citizens in the ninth, tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade.
Junior Alternate Member applications must be completed, printed and notarized. Completed applications can be dropped off at the City Secretary’s Office, faxed to 972-412-6118 or
emailed to the City Secretary’s Office.
Attendance Policy
The Boards and Commissions attendance policy is clearly stated in the
handbook under Section 3.1.
Mandatory Open Meetings Act Training
All appointed and reappointed members of a board or commission shall complete mandatory Open Meetings Act training within 45 days of their appointment or reappointment to comply with the Open Meetings Act. Online training may be completed by watching the
Texas Attorney General’s Open Meetings Act Video, or a DVD may be checked out from the
