• If you are charged with a traffic offense, you may request permission on or before your initial appearance date to take a Defensive Driving Course.

• If you were operating a motorcycle and request a Defensive Driving Course you will be required to take a Motorcycle Operator's Training Course.

• If you were charged with Seatbelt Violation - No Child Safety Seat 8 years and younger and request a Defensive Driving Course, you will be required to take a Specialized Driving Safety "Seat Belt" Course.

• Present a valid Texas Operator's License and current proof of liability insurance.
• Enter a plea of guilty or nolo contendere (no contest).
• Pay the state-mandated fees to court.
• Pay the fee to the State for certified copy of your Driving Record.
• Have an Affidavit Notarized.
• Pay course provider for State Certified Course.

Eligibility
You are eligible to request this course if you:

• Have not taken a Defensive Driving Course for a traffic offense within the twelve months preceding the offense date.
• Are not currently taking the course for another traffic offense or city.

• Speeding 25 mph over the limit or more.
• Failure to Give Information at Accident Scene.
• Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
• Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer.
• Pass a School Bus Loading or Unloading.
• Any Traffic Offense Committed In A Construction Zone.
• A Serious Traffic Violation as Defined by the Transportation Code, which applies to drivers with a Commercial Driver's License.
