Do I need to obtain a permit for repairing a portion or replacing the entire fence?
If you are repairing a portion or replacing your fence, a permit is required before construction of the fence. Please download our
Fence Regulations
to gather more information of what kind of information needs to be submitted to the City.

My water heater needs repair and I will be doing the work myself. Do I need a permit?
A water heater has certain codes required by State law that must be followed. Once the water heater has been replaced or repaired, a building inspector must come out to check and make sure the repair or replacement meets the code standards.

As a contractor, must I register with the City of Rowlett before I pull a permit?
It is mandatory that a contractor register with the City before completing a proposed job. You have the option of filling out a
Contractor Registration Form
online and a
Credit Card Authorization Form
and faxing it to 972-412-6228 or by visiting us at the Development Services Building located at:

If I sublease the Take Area adjacent to my property, do I still need a permit to build any structures or place items in the subleased area?
Yes, permits are required for any improvements within the Take Area including, but not limited to, retaining walls, boat houses, piers, docks, patios, barbecue pits, play structures, gazebos, walkways, etc. Please contact the City of Rowlett Building Inspections Department at 972-412-6125 for more information.

Do I need permission to put landscaping in my subleased Take Area?
Yes, proposed landscaping materials and installation locations must be reviewed and approved by the City of Rowlett. Please keep in mind that any herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc., that are used within the Take Area must be approved by
Texas Commission of Environmental Quality
or the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
for use around water supplies.
