1. How do I apply for a position with the City of Rowlett?

The City of Rowlett only accepts applications for positions that are currently open and posted. Please view our current job opportunities to apply online.

2. Do I have to apply online?

Yes, applications must be submitted online. We no longer accept paper applications, and we cannot accept a resume in lieu of an application. However, please feel free to submit a resume along with your online application.

If this is your first time submitting an online application, you will need to create an account and select a username and password. After creating your account, you will be able to login and build an application. This application will be saved so that you may use it to apply for multiple jobs without having to create a new application each time. Resumes and other pertinent information can be sent as an attachment in the online application process. This is a secure site, and only authorized City employees have access to your information. 3. I do not have a computer at home. Where can I go to apply online?

If you do not have access to a computer, you may visit Human Resources and submit an application at one of our applicant computer terminals, or you may visit the Rowlett Public Library and submit an application at one of the workstations in the PC Lab.

4. If I want to apply for multiple positions, do I have to submit an application for each position?

Yes. But our online application system allows you to submit your saved application for each posting in which you are interested.

5. I do not see the job that I’m interested in today. Does the City have more career opportunities?

You can only apply for positions that are currently open and posted; however, you are encouraged to fill out a job interest card. This feature provides you with the opportunity to select job classifications that interest you, and an automatic email will be generated when a new position opens up.

6. What is the Application Review Process?

Applications and resumes are reviewed by the Human Resources Department to ensure that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the job. It is important to note that only applicants whose experience meets the minimum qualifications are considered. The hiring department then reviews the applications and schedules interviews.

Although all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are considered, those candidates whose background, experience, and education are most closely related to the position may be considered first. Not all applicants will necessarily be interviewed.

7. What are the driving requirements for positions that require a valid Texas driver’s license?

The City of Rowlett will conduct a driver’s license check on all persons applying for OR who are employed in positions that require driving. An applicant for a position that requires a valid Texas driver’s license will not be considered for such position if their Department of Public Safety (DPS) driving record evaluation score is six (6) or more demerits in the last three (3) years (5 years for a DWI violation).

An employee whose DPS driving record is evaluated with a score of six (6) or more demerits in the last three (3) years (5 years for a DWI violation) will be removed from driving and placed in an available position in the department for which he/she is qualified and offered the position. If no position is available, the employee may be terminated.

8. Will there be testing? How will the testing be conducted?

Yes, but only if you are applying for a position that requires testing. After the hiring supervisor has reviewed your application and selected you as a top candidate, they will notify the Human Resources Department to schedule an appointment for testing.

9. How long does the recruitment process take?

Every recruitment is different; therefore, the process can range from a couple of weeks to a few months depending on the job classification and the complexity of the selection process.

10. How can I check on the status of my application?

To check on the status of your application, please visit GovernmentJobs.com and select the “Career Seeker” tab at the top of the screen. Log into your account and click on “Application Status” to view the status of each application submitted.

11. How do I change my contact information?

To change your contact information, please visit GovernmentJobs.com and select the “Career Seeker” tab at the top of the screen. Log into your account and click on “My Account” to view and edit your contact information.

12. I am having problems with my application or my GovernmentJobs.com account. Who do I contact?

For assistance with your GovernmentJobs.com account, please contact our vendor, NEOGOV, at 1-877-204-4442 and select option #2, then option #1.

13. I forgot my username and/or password for my GovernmentJobs.com account. How can I retrieve this information?

You can retrieve your username or password yourself by clicking the "I Forgot My Username and/or Password" link on the Application Login screen. If you need additional assistance, please watch this video for a step by step demonstration. If you continue to have problems accessingyour account, please contact our vendor, NEOGOV, at 1-877-204-4442 and select option #2, then option #1. City of Rowlett staff cannot retrieve username or password information.

14. What will happen if I’m selected for the position?

The hiring supervisor will make you a contingent offer, and then you will be contacted by a representative from the Human Resources Department to begin the pre-employment process. At that time, Human Resources will conduct pre-employment screenings, which may include: social security verification, conducting driving checks, background checks, physicals and drug screenings and polygraph/psychological testing. A final job offer is made only after these requirements have been met.

15. Is there anything that would make me ineligible for employment?
