Special Weapons and Tactics

The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) is a specialized, highly trained, and disciplined unit that is comprised of officers from both the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions as well as the Support Services Bureau. They are responsible for the safe execution of high risk search and arrest warrants, narcotics search warrants, "buy bust" operations, and critical incident situations involving barracaded persons or hostages, etc. It is also utilized for other duties including suveillance and traffic and crowd control during special events. A need for such a unit was realized in 1994 and the current SWAT was formed. All unit members are highly dedicated officers who are required to remain in outstanding physical condition and train together on a monthly basis.   Officers who join the SWAT Team must first attend a basic SWAT school, and subsiquently attend specialized training throughout the year.
