- Atlapedia Online Countries A to Z
At Atlapedia.com search by the first letter of a country name to find information about its population, geography, climate, religion, history, and more. Political and physical maps for each country are also available.
- World Leaders (CIA)
Published and maintained by the Central Intelligence Agency, this online directory includes the chiefs of state and cabinet members of many governments of the world. Governments are listed in alphabetical order according to the most commonly used version of each country's name.
- CIA World Factbook
The CIA World Factbook provides information about the history, geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for each country indexed. Selecting a country name from the alphabetical drop-down list on the homepage will access this information.
- Cultural Profiles Project
Provided by the University of Toronto, the purpose of this project is to help Canadians understand the background of new immigrants. Profiles attempt to cover the typical life and customs of each country. Profiles are available in French and English, and HTML and PDF versions.
- Embassy Directory
The Embassy Directory provides links to web pages or contact information for embassies and consulates around the world. To find an embassy, search by host or guest country or select a page from the alphabetical directory. Also available are map searches and international phone number searches.
- Library of Congress Country Studies
Previously published in book form by the Library of Congress Federal Research Division, this web site offers a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world. The focus is on lesser-known areas of the world, currently 102 countries and regions, and is therefore not all-inclusive.
- Lonely Planet
A resource for students, travelers, and those interested in world geography, the Lonely Planet web site provides information about the history and culture of a country as well as maps and travel suggestions. To locate a country profile, browse by region and country, select a region from the map, or enter a destination into the search box.
- World Gazetteer
Select from the World Gazetteer’s list of countries to find information about current population, administrative divisions, and cities and towns. Images of current national flags are also provided. Select the general stats link provides access to comparison charts.
- World Rulers
This site contains lists of heads of state, heads of government, and, in certain cases, de facto leaders, of all countries and territories, going back to about 1700 in most cases. Also included are the subdivisions of various countries, as well as a selection of international organizations. Recent foreign ministers of all countries are listed separately.
- World Sites Atlas
The World Sites Atlas provides tourist information, news, maps, photos, and links for every continent. Sites are listed in alphabetical order within each continent and can also be accessed with a click-able map. [back to top]
