How do I apply for a position with the City of Rowlett? You may download an application from our website or pick up an application from Human Resources. Once you completed the application, you may mail, fax or drop it off in Human Resources.
Do I have to fill out a separate application if I want to be considered for more than one position? Yes, a separate application is required for each position.
What are the driving requirements for positions that require a valid Texas driver’s license? The City of Rowlett will conduct a driver’s license check on all persons applying for OR who are employed in positions that require driving. An applicant for a position that requires a valid Texas driver’s license will not be considered for such position if their DPS driving record evaluation score is Six (6) or more demerits in the last three (3) years (5 years for a DWI violation).
An employee who’s DPS driving record is evaluated with a score of Six (6) or more demerits in the last three (3) years (5 years for a DWI violation) will be removed from driving and placed in an available position in the department for which he/she is qualified and offered the positions. If no position is available, the employee will be terminated.

Will there be testing? How will the testing be conducted? Yes, but only if you are applying for a position that requires testing. After the hiring supervisor has reviewed your application and selected you as a top candidate, they will notify Human Resources Department to schedule an appointment for testing.
How long does the recruitment process take? Being that every recruitment is different; the process can range from a couple weeks to a few months depending on the job classification and the complexity of the selection process.
If not selected for a position, will my application remain on file? Applications will remain on file for 90 days.
What will happen if I’m selected for the position? You will be contacted by a Human Resource Representative to begin the pre-employment process. At that time, Human Resources will conduct pre-employment screenings, which includes: verifying past employment, conducting driving checks, physicals and drug screenings and polygraph/psychological testing (if applicable).
What will happen if I’m not selected for the position? Due to large volume of applications receive for our positions, at this point in time we are unable to contact each applicant to let them know the status of his/her application. However, please “stay tuned” as this is “scheduled” to change very soon. In providing excellent customer service in the interim, we welcome you to email us for status updates on your applications.
